The vast majority of women in South Asia today
have never been afforded the opportunity to develop
themselves. A hierarchical society leaves poor and
low-caste women at the bottom of a ladder they can’t
even attempt to climb. There is little thought of
pursuing any education or training for specific skills.
Forced into difficult, manual-labor jobs at a young
age, many can’t even read.
Their spiritual outlook is just as bleak. Because
of the strict social codes of Asian culture, male
missionaries are usually unable to minister to women,
leaving them with few opportunities to hear about
Christ’s love. But women are not restricted by these
centuries-old barriers, and ladies like those in Renu’s
group are finding freedom as she helps them grow in
their relationship with Jesus.
In each of the thousands of Women’s Fellowship
groups across South Asia, ladies are given hope and
encouragement to grow personally, intellectually and
spiritually. God is moving in their lives in dramatic
ways. Women who never imagined that their lives
could have such purpose and fulfillment are now
experiencing abundant life in Christ—and sharing
that Good News with others.
A NEW FUTURE
This Saturday’s Women’s Fellowship meeting is
over. The ladies put away the pens, notebooks,
newspaper and sewing machine. Renu says goodbye
to each one, and they are all a little sad to leave this
weekly oasis of spiritual refreshment and personal
development.
But this is just the beginning of the fruit they’ll
see in the upcoming days. Their impact on families,
friends and community will be rewarding—many will
bring their husbands and children to church the next
day and reach out to neighbors throughout the week.
Their lives may be simple, but as they continue to
grow in their Savior’s love, these women, along with
thousands of others, are having a profound effect on
their generation. As a result, life for Asian women
holds a promise of new opportunities, new respect, a
new future and a new hope—all through Jesus.
